CHITTAGONG HILL TRACTS, BANGLADESH

Many
girls from surrounding villages wanted to attend the school, but it
was too far and too dangerous for them to walk to school each day.
In response to this need, the Firefly Mission in Singapore donated
US$5,000 to construct a new hostel. With the new hostel, girls from
neighboring villages are able to stay at the school.
The new
hostel opened in November 2006 and accommodates 30 students from six
villages who stay year-round. At the beginning of February 2008, 19
girls moved into the new dormitory. These residential students are
cooking meals for themselves. The average age of these students is
13. They are just beginning their studies, because they did not have
the opportunity to go to school earlier.
