Save the Orphans of the Nargis Cyclone Project

This Nargis Cyclone destroyed every aspect of life of thousands of people in the delta region of Myanmar on May 2nd. It had destroyed many homes. It had killed thousands of people. It had wiped out many villages on the sea shore. Many paddy fields were flooded with salt water and make them impossible for cultivation in time. It is very horrible. It is very tragic for our people. Our country mourns for those who lost their lives and who lost their livelihoods. Many children lost their parents, many parents lost their children. It seems that we are dreaming the most horrible dream in our entire history. Such tragedy of such magnitude had never happened in our history.

The communities of the world also mourn for our people. They try their best to help the victims of the cyclone. Out of their mercy and kindness flows many tons of commodities to help the plight of the victims. Most of the communities are so busy with the emergency programs that they don't have the proper plan for the children who have lost both parents in the cyclone and who are left without home and guardian. Many children have taken refuge in the monasteries and some with their relatives. Some are too young. They need motherly care. Some are of school going age, but they can't afford to go to school on their own. At present, they don't have proper shelters, proper foods and clothes and proper education. We worry very much about their future. Their future seems to be very bleak and hopeless. But no organizations have any plan for their future. So, let us do now and save the children of the victims of cyclone.

I propose two stages of plan for those children. One is emergency plan to response to the immediate needs of the children. Other one is long term plan for the children to provide them proper accommodation and education.

Border Areas Development Association

Immediate Plan

a.      Secure the lists of orphans in the delta region who need shelters.

b.     Collect the list of the institutions such as orphanages, monasteries and nunneries which can accept the children.

c.      Settle those children in such institutions and donate ks 50,000 each for every child.

d.     Gather the list of the children who are staying at present with their relatives and guardians.

e.     Provide ks 20,000 for each child for education.

f.      Our association has allotted 50 lakhs (ks 5,000,000) to help such children to go to school. We also appeal the other organizations to support our project.

g.      We will also prepare the list of foster parents who will take care of those children.
