Cyclone Nargis Relief & Rehabilitation – One Year Reflections & Reviews

Last Saturday (2-May-09) marked the 1st year anniversary of the cyclone Nargis that raged the Irrawady Delta in Myanmar. The cyclone left a trail of intense and widespread suffering, resulting in about 150,000 deaths (inc 54,000 still missing), and affected more than 2 million people severely.

About 100 volunteers of FFM and devotees of the Uttamayanmuni Buddhist Temple (UBT) attended the Special Memorial Service cum Project Update. We took part in chanting, and offering of requisites and lunch dana to the members of the Maha Sangha (7 Venerables Monks). Ven Kheminda gave an enlightening talk on Kamma and Natural Disaster. We concluded the day with Sharing of Merits, and the Review & Reflection on the Cyclone Nargis Relief & Rehabilitation Project. Many were inspired and happy to be part of the project.

In Nyein Oo, Mawlemyine Gyun, a similar Special Memorial Service was also conducted to commemorate the 1st year anniversary of Cyclone Nargis.
