FFM: Semarang-Borobudur Trip 2009

It has been a very good learning and enjoyable trip for all

We celebrated Vesak Day with the students and villagers at Boyolali. The students presented a string of program for the Vesak Nite. Most outstanding performance was the "Buddha's Life Story" played in Jawanese Style accompanied by the Gamelan.

Major Things Done:
Donated the following to STIAB (Buddhist College), Smaratungga
- 10 sets of PCs

- 3 LCD Projectors

- Dhamma Books (for the Library)

- Fire extinguishers

Together with Uttamayanmuni Buddhist Temple (UBT), Singapore, we had pledged to offer 20 scholarships per year to outstanding students of the college in the next 4 years.

Some background, last year Firefly Mission offered two sets of Tipitaka to the Buddhist College which Ven Kheminda (of Uttamayanmuni Temple) is supposed to be teaching. A team of four went to Semarang to present the Tipitaka and was inspired to further help the college. Last December we donated 8 new CPUs to the College.

We are raising fund to purchase 15 more sets of computer and hopefully can present while we are there in May. So far, one brother has pleged to dana 5 sets (estimate S$1000 per set). All computers will be purchased in Semarang so need not pay custom taxes.

Ven Kheminda and the Abbot of Uttamayanmuni Temple will be joining us on this trip.
