Cultural Exchange Program between
Singapore & Indonesian Students
- Republic Polytechnic and STIAB (Buddhist
College) Smaratungga
Firefly Mission is sponsoring 34 students
plus 5 staff from the Sekolah Tinggi Ilmu Agama Buddha (STIAB
Buddhist College) Smaratungga,
Boyolali, Indonesia to visit Singapore from 6-11 June 2010 on a
Cultural Exchange Program.
The main objectives are:
- To
promote goodwill and cultural exchange
between Indonesia & Singapore
- To
give recognition and support to STIAB (Buddhist College) Smaratungga,
to further enhance the college’s status and boost the morale of
the students and staff
The highlight of their visit is their
cultural performance on
the evening of 9 & 10 June at the Republic Polytechnic. It is an
epic drama on the construction of the Borobudur, the largest
Buddhist monument in the world, a UNESCO heritage site and
Java’s most famous tourist attraction. The drama is being staged
as the opening performance for the Inaugural Symposium
of the International Council of Traditional Music (ICTM) Study
Group on South East Asia Traditional Music*.
Gamelan
Music accompaniment for the performance will be
provided by Singapore students from the Republic
Polytechnic and the La Salle College of the
Arts.
