Myanmar Feeding program

The Feeding Program is started by U Min Nyunt and Daw Ya Min, a teacher. Once a week, the teacher & other volunteers cook meal for the children providing important supplement to their diet. FFM has continue with the feeding program for 2020, targeting to feed about 1000 children over 6 schools in LaeMa village and surrounding shanty town area.

FFM Eye Camps @ Nyein Oo Village - 2019

This has been our annual Eye Camps in Nyein Oo Village since 2010, organized by Bhante Dr U Sopaka & the medical team led by Dr Sa J Lwin
this year the cost of the camps is sponsored by family of the late Mr & Mrs Tan Eng Leong

Total number of patients consulted: 368
We operated on 159 patients and in addition we did minor surgeries for 11 more

Clean Water Project at Gonebin Village

Can you imagine living without water for a third of the year? That was what happened to a village in Myanmar, Gonebin Village.

Last December when we were in Myanmar, the Principal of the Gonebin village school, had travelled overnight to meet us to ask for our help.

The gesture moved many of us and we agreed to help. However, we realised soon that the project wasn’t going to be as simple as initially thought as multiple attempts to extract ground water had failed. The villagers and us persevered, and after digging for more than 700 feet underground and finally reached clean ground water.

We are happy to announce that today marks the official completion of the Gonebin Village Deep Well System.We would like to thank Bro U Tin Oo, village head of Gyuthiri Village and Sis Shelly, founder of Myanmar Golden Image for helping to coordinate this project. We would also like to thank all our very generous donors without which the project would have only remained a dream.

This was not the first time we have dug deep in the past, constructing deep wells in southern part of Myanmar and Chittagong Hilltract, Bangladesh. This will also not be the last time that we will do so. … together we light up the world

Medical Facilities completed in 2019

Htantabin Forest Monastery (near Nipidaw)– Venerable U Kevala’s monastery has been providing free transport services for the deceased; sending their bodies to their hometowns for burials. A new vehicle is need to replace the old one that has broken down.

Flood Relief - 2019

Raging floods across Myanmar have forced tens of thousands of people from their homes in recent weeks, as monsoon rains pummel the nation.

Shwegyin township in Bago region has become a vast lake of water , houses are submerged under water with only rooftops could be seen.

Army troops have been helping to bring people to dry ground and many seeking shelter in local monasteries. Others waded through waist-deep floodwaters or rowed on wooden boats to salvage whatever belongings they could find. Flood water has also forced 58 schools to shut down and flood-hit area are in need of emergency supplies.

Firefly Mission has raised funds and partnered with Shwegyin Youth Development Center (YDC), led by Bhante Dr U Aggasara & assisted by Bro Aye Chan, to provide relief for those severely affected by the flood.

The tasks to deliver relief items to affected communities were tough. As most roads are submerged with water, trucks carrying relief items faces great difficulties to reach affected area. Small sampan boats are used to reach the worst hit area.

With the tireless & strong support of Shwegyin YDC, our relief supplies have finally reached the stricken communities. Relief supplies includes Cooking oils, rice, cooking utensils, candles, tents, blankets and other items have been timely distributed to the households in need.

We thank Venerable, Dr Sa J Lwin & his team of volunteer ophthalmologists, nurses & volunteers who had sacrificed their holiday & comfort in planning and executing the project.

Our karmic connection with Nyein Oo Village dated back to the fateful night of Cyclone Nargis on 2-May-2008. We had done much relief work, rehabilitation of the village by rebuilding school, new rural clinic & bridges to connect the people. Since 2010, we started our Annual Eye Camp that had been led by Dr Sa J Lwin tirelessly & selflessly.

3 Story School cum Dormitory - 2015

The Firefly Mission continues to be committed to the long term rehabilitation of the victims of Cyclone Nargis which hit Myanmar seven years ago. A new three-storey building for a school-cum-dormitory at Bogale, Yoke Saing village is now under construction. It is scheduled for completion in the 3rd quarter 2015.
